Local Offer West Sussex

SE7 LOCAL OFFER SEND QUESTIONS

  1. 1.    What does your service do?

Sussex Music Workshops run therapeutic music workshops in a variety of venues for children, young people and adults with a wide range of Special Needs and Disabilities including life-limiting illness. Through a medium of music, our participants can enjoy self-expression and involvement in ways that they often otherwise cannot access. All of our sessions are tailored to the abilities and interests of those taking part and the needs of the workshops are very often inspired by children themselves. There will use of percussion (including drums, hand held instruments and bells), Ukuleles and singing. The children can explore this and a whole range of different skills, which can often unlock doors in their minds and thinking.

I also offer a weekly music session at the Broadwater Parish Centre, where children and young people can come along to with SEND.

  1. 2.    Where is it located and what areas does it cover?

I can travel to parent carers and young people within West Sussex. Please contact for further information.

  1. 3.    Who does your service provide for?

I can offer Music Workshops / Sessions for any ages. Please contact for further information.

  1. 4.    How can I start using the service?

If you are interested in booking a music workshops/ session, please contact me directly and I can talk you through the next steps.

  1. 5.    How are decisions made about who can use your service?

If you would like to find out more information about the service I have to offer, please telephone or email me and I will be happy to talk through what is next to do. Anyone can be part of these workshops, and I am happy to visit your school/ home.

6. How do you communicate with service users and how are they

involved in decision making/planning?

The atmosphere is very ‘laid back’ and relaxed with the children being allowed to explore, invent and develop their own speed and in their own way. We go out our way to cater for the needs of individual children, sometimes after the conclusion of the formal sessions and sometimes in the children’s own homes.

7. Is your service fully accessible?

I am not in a fixed location and therefore can travel to meet your needs. The centre I use for my weekly music workshop is wheelchair accessible (Broadwater Parish Centre). I am very flexible, and depends on the fixed location of where I am travelling to.

8. What training are the staff supporting children and young people with

SEND had or are having?

I am a fully qualified Primary School Teacher and hold a current DBS check. I have had over 20 years of experience through the school and the workshops I have been running, therefore all of my training has been through the job I have been doing over the years.
